Default I think I broke it...

I was driving home in the snow tonight (we got about 14 inches) and had it in 4x4. I went around a sharp right hand corner, and didn't really notice, but they had put salt down in the intersection. I drove through, felt some tension in the steering wheel, and as I came out of the corner, I had no power steering!

I don't know what to do! Fluid comes out of the cap if i crank the wheel. The fluid is still to the full line. There aren't any leaks in the system from what I can tell.

Please help. It is impossible to turn this truck in 4x4 without power steering! I'm driving around in two-wheel, and it is not pretty with all this snow! And my arms are killing me.

Thanks for any help...

Interesting. So when you turn the wheel, the pump tries to send fluid through but instead it comes out the resevoir cap?

I just had this happen to me a month ago. Replaced the pump, steering works now. You might want to bleed and flush the system.

Yah, sounds like catastrophic failure somewhere in the pump or steering gear...

Fantastic. How much $$ do you think we're talking for a p/s pump?

Better than the $220 + $166 core for the steering gear on my truck.

But before spending money, take a good look around and make sure none of the hoses are messed up.

You ain't kidding Steve. The pump is shot in my plow truck. Been plowing snow 3-4 times a week, 8ft blade, and 35" Super Swamper Boggers. It's a workout!
