Exclamation Slight Issue.

For thouse people who want to skip to the disscussion, I have a long story short undern all this. I drive a 98 Dodge Ram 1500.

Hey everyone at Dodge Forum's. Unfortunantly, this is my first post. I've had the account a while, but havnt had much time to do anything on it. Tonight, while driving to the fire department, I was stopped at a yield sign that is placed on a four way intersection, a 40mph road, an end to a highway, a 30mph road, and a smaller residintial road. I stopped at the sign, like I said, and as it would happen due to my so far so good day, some slick hotshot college kid rams his VW joke undernethe me. He tore his car up real good, of course, but he also ruined my tow bar, reciever hitch, 5th tail light Dodge emblem, ect. This, of course, pissed me off.

Anyways, the father of this hotshot showed up 30 secounds later, he was stuck behind a red light, and immidiatly started placing the blame on me. I know my laws, I know my situation, and I know what I am doing, so I was able to define which violations his son broke, ect. His dads next step was to say he could hardly see any damage on my truck, which was true, until I finally focused his attention to my wrecked towing package. Their insurance company is going to call me tommorow, and try and argue that there wasnt any damage to my truck. Does anyone know the estimated cost for a towing package on a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 V8?

Long story short, because i've been on forums before and know some people just want to skip to the disscusion:

Some nut hit my truck and ruined my towing package, how much will it be to replace the towing package, for insurance purposes?

it all depends on what you have for a towing package. if you can give us more details we'd be happy to help you out

Alright, thanks. Tommorow when I get a chance i'll take a look at what exactly it all is. I never really took a look at it, I focused on everything else, I just kind of assumed the towing package would be the last thing to go down, and if it did, it'd go down with a trailer rolling out the back while driving down the highway.

I have the '98 1500 tow package. If I could find my sticker, I'd tell you. What you need to do is go to the dealer (yes, this time it pays) and get an estimate.

More than likely the Insurance company will only cover it if it was purchased with the truck as an option, if it was installed aftermarket the reciver will probally not be covered. Take the truck to a shop and get a quote for ALL the damage, be sure to have them check the frame and all body damge.

To get a new reciver it is usually around $100 buck plus labor from UHAUL I belive.

Lmao wtf? He rear ended you, he's at fault. His insurance company will come over, appraise the damage, and you go get it fixed.

Viper's right, usually they do that.

However, also get estimates from shops yourself. Sometimes the insurance companies treat you fair, sometimes they don't.

Some states (SD is one of them) have a law that states that if you are rear ended, pretty much no matter what the circumstances, the person who hit you from behind is automatically at fault, no discussion.

This is why I also have a cheap, disposable camera in the truck with me. If someone were to ever hit me, I'd take pictures of the scene right after it happens, to show to my insurance agent if they try to fight it.

Yes, but 90% of insurance companys won't cover aftermarket stuff, i.e. bumpers, bodykits, rims, tint jobs, your big shiny brass truck nuts, off road tires, or anything that was not on the vehicle when purchased new unless it is covered on your insurance, with can be done it just cost a hell of a lot more.

I know that in MI that you are liable for the front end of your vehicle at almost all times. If you get in an accident and you end up with front end damage then you have to prove how the damage got on your vehicle and it is not your fault. Now, obviously if you T-Bone someone cause they blew through a red light that is a different story, but in your case you should be good.

I agree with everyone else that I would take the truck into a couple of shops and get an estimate of the damage. You never know, he may have smashed up your exhaust or messed up your frame somehow.
