Question about straight pipes on a dodge ram
I have a dodge ram 1500 reg cab short box with a single exaust i want to leave the caddalic conveter on and put a y-pipe after it. and bring out 2 pipes to the rear end. is there a cheap way to do this or to do it your self. where can i buy pipes that are pre bended for my truck? and will it sound ok i have the 360 motor or the big one lol
i used to have the exact same set-up. just a cat then a y-pipe and duals to the back, i got alot of compliments on the sound, and i was always relatively happy with it except it just really wasnt as deep as i wanted it to sound. and the power was about the same as always, no loss. recently i changed to a single 3 inch pipe out of the cat and dumped it before the rear tire, i like it a whole lot more... and if your buying a kit for your truck the pipes will be pre-bent for you, but if your doing a custom pipe job, you just have to measure and have a place that does exhausts bend it for you.
I really think it's silly when people half *** there exhaust systems, and just start cutting off ****. Take your time, spend the money, and do it right the first time. An exhaust system is what gives your truck that signature rumble, and can make the undercarriage really pretty looking under the bed.
Here is a kit from ebay. It's a flowmaster super 44 muffler with all the piping, clamps, hangers, and even exhaust tips. You could just buy it, and either put it in yourself, or have some exhaust shop do it.

Or, you could purchase a muffler of your preference, and bring it to a muffler shop. They can custom bend the piping for you, and it will be done right. If your doing an exhaust system, I think it's worth the extra dollar to purchase a new catalytic converter as well. They sell universal magnaflow catalytic converters on summitracing for around $85. It's a great investment. Replaces the old "cat" on your truck, frees up a little more air, and the exhaust gets a little louder. At the end of the day, you've got a new catalytic converter, new muffler, new piping, and some nice stainless steel exhaust tips to boast about. No sense in half-assing anything.

thats good...however for buying new catalytic converters, my truck has a 2 in one out cat. with the o2 sensor right before. how do i go about changing it to something like you said? am i going to have to get a false 02 sensor?
That is ok, it will still work fine. Buy whatever size catalytic converter you want, and the 02 sensor will still fit right in. Go on to summitracing and type in universal magnaflow catalytic converters. Find the dimensions you need, and your good to go. Then when you have the muffler and the magnaflow cat; bring it to an exhaust shop, and they will tear everything from the cat back including the cat. Then they will start a fresh system from that point with your new cat, muffler, and exhaust tips. Then you'll have yourself a nice mean and clean system.
