Do you have ABS or only RWAL? You might need to chase wires ... the RWSS may not have been bad but that doesn't mean the signal's getting through.

I feel like a idiot by saying this but I think I only have RWAL. the only reason I say that is because the relay for the ABS is empty. Besides the ABS speed sensor, have you heard of any other problems in the ABS system that could cause this problem? Thanks for the quick reply.

I was reading in the Haynes Manual that you can pull codes for the ABS. It says to use a jumper wire to ground terminal #13. Then count the blinks just like the check engine light. so would I just stick a wire in #13 and touch it to metal with the key off? would anyone know? I love learning more about my truck but I just want to be as informed as possible so I don't go messing things up out of ignorance. I want to keep this Ram for another 150,000 miles and then some.

Try it and find out. I'd be interested to know. I know there's no code set in the PCM for this problem.

I'm betting bad cable.

I was mad when it didn't trigger the "check enging" light. I was hoping to pull a code. I'll try it out and post the results. I can only hope by doing that it'll help someone else down the road. Do you know if it's still okay to drive the truck with that light on? will it just disengauge the ABS system?

Since you've got a '97 ... the only thing that should be a "problem" is you won't have RWAL until it's fixed. I believe the "BRAKE" lamp comes on every time the "ABS" lamp is on.

so the ABS light came on when I was at my sisters house in Stockton, CA. I replaced the ABS speed sensor and unplugged the battery for 2 minutes. When I plugged it back and turned the truck on, the light went off for a while then came back on. So I drove home to San Francisco,CA. A 100 mile drive. After work today I checked the stoplight switch for continuity. It was fine. I plugged it back in and unplugged the battery for 30 second to reset the RWAL module. When I went to turn the truck on again, sure enough, the light didn't come on again. I drove it around town and it feels okay. I hate the fact that I don't know how it was fixed so to me, I'll still broken. The wires looked solid. Could it be that it just took a little bit longer to reprogram itself?

You reseated the connector ... this is a common fix for electrical problems. By pulling and reconnecting the plug, the contacts are scraped together, making a new (clean) connection. Does this make sense?

Perfect sense. Sometime I over look the obvious and head straight towards the worst case senerio. Thanks again!!!
