Default rancho rs 5000 question

I received a free pair of RS5000 shocks from a friend. He has a 3 in lift on a 98 ram and mine is stock ride height. These shocks are for the stock ride height and wouldnt fit his. When I hold them up to my factory shocks on the pickup, they look long. Are they supposed to? how much of the rod should stick out of the cylinder? does anyone have any pictures of the RS5000s on their picup? it just seems as though the shock boot is compressed almost all the way and there isnt much room for travel. thanks

What is the part number stamped on the shock? You can look that up and make sure they are for stock ride height.

The RS5000's are known for being a stiff shock.

For the RS5000s, the stock height (not Off Road Edition) shocks should be part numbers...

Front: RS5197
Rear: RS5262

Off-Road Edition...

Front: RS5221
Rear: RS5198

Those are from the 2008-2009 Rancho Shocks catalog.

If memory serves, the 9000s are adjustable, and the 5000s aren't.

I have the 9000XL's, and they are absolutely awesome. I don't think i'll ever buy another non-adjustable shock again.
