That sounds about right to me. In racing circles it is well known that unsprung weight (ie wheels and tires) changes make bigger changes in track performance than the same sprung weight changes. In other words wheels andd tires are one of the primary areas for improvement in racing vehicles.

Spindle lifts are retarded. I have a 2.5 inch lift up front.

Why would I need larger wheels to clear the upper control arms?

With a smaller diameter tire, your gonna lose top end (run higher rpm) but gain low end. Maybe that's what your feeling. Oh wait... the problem is you didn't go BFG

and worth every penny. My Dad crashed my old ranger through a 3 foot concrete drainage channel, up a bank and got airborne before he landed. All that happened at 65 mph and none of the tires were damaged.

going to try my best

the lift spindle moves the loction of the hub down moves which moves the truck up.
moving axle of the spindle closer to the move lower c-arm so then because of the ofset of the wheel, then the wheel will hit the upper a-arm

hope this make sense, if not go look at the space bewteen the upper c-arm and the inside of the rim.((( maybe that 2000-2001 have more room because they are diff)

hope i help. if not let me know

I guess it is a bit harder to explain why it's true than I thought, but the concept is simple. All else being equal...remove a pound from your wheels and you will improve your track times more than removing a pound from say your interior.

I think it may be harder to picture this when we are talking about 6000 lb trucks that will never see an autocross track or the like but it is completely obvious to anyone who's compared the difference on a motorcycle or a suspended mt bike for example.

Back when I was into mt biking perhaps the best mod I ever spent money on was a light weight back wheel. After the mod, suddenly it felt as though my bonds were lifted and I could ride much faster, farther, better. It was not at all subtle either.

This is an often talked about concept in racing circles. Check out corner carvers suspension forum for many many discussions about unsprung vs sprung weight.
