When i had the thread going bout building up my 318 someone had also suggested 3.90 gears i found a 3.93 ring and pinion set on ebay and says for 9.25 rear axle my truck is 96 1500 2wd can anyone tell me if that is the axle i have?

 

I didn't know there was a 3.93 option for the 9.25 rear. Maybe, I had to match my front so there could be but I'd check a few places first.

 

What gear do you have now, 3.55? if so, 3.90 isn't really going to make much of a noticeable difference. These trucks are just too heavy. 4.10 would be a better set.

 

Anything will be better than the 3.55. The difference between 4.10 and 3.92/3.90/3.93/etc. is less than .3, where as the 3.9x gears will be over .4 better than stock. So I think the difference between 4.10 and 3.92 will be minimal. 4.10s might be better, depending on your application, but if the price is right, 3.9Xs should be just fine.

Price is also a consideration... I got 3.92 gears cheap ($150 for both front Dana 44 and 9.25 Chrysler rear sets) from a guy who was selling an extra set he had. Now I just gotta wait for funds (always waiting for those, it seems) before I get them installed.
