I put a dab of RTV on the threads on mine. No leaks thus far.

I'm pretty sure that's what's recommended in the Haynes manual I have-- Teflon tape. I can't think of a reason why it would hurt. For all intents and purposes the sensor is just a solid chunk of brass.

On mine, the sensor for the gauge (1 wire) is on the passenger side of the thermostat housing, and the sensor for the PCM, (2 wire) is on the drivers side. I wonder if your manifold got changed out at some point?

Every set of gauges I've ever installed said not to use Teflon on the threads as the sensor grounds to the intake and the tape can actually cause a false reading.

Default Coolant temp and switch locations and problem

My 92 dakota 3.9L had trouble from the reservoir bubbling up and spewing it out. I assumed thermostat and went with it. Bought a new thermo housing wit gasket permatex and a coolant temp switch wich i heard sends the readings to the gauge. Before all this my gauge was reading hot. So i added those items on and good no leaks but the coolant switch worked for about 10 min and just stopped so now it reads cold. Should i also change the sensor? Btw the thermostat i put in was good as i boiled it and took it out several times and dropped it back in. Also viewing from front of engine, i have a sensor or shall i say sender wich was replaced...on the left side of thermo housing, then i have another sensor on the rite wich i think is sensor. Am i correct on wich sensors are to the sides of the thermo housing?

You want to be in the first-gen Dakota section.
