Default New oil pump question

I'm wondering if a high volume pump is worth the extra money. Advance has a normal pump for 28.99. The high volume is 56.99. I have heard that having too high volume of a pump could cause more harm then good. Not sure if that would be a special made one or reworked hv one. Anyway is it worth it for the HV pump?

I would stick with the stock one, the problem with a new motor and a high volume pump is you clearances are tighter around your bearings than a worn out motor. Because of this the oil can't seap out as fast which in turn causes higher preshers, the higher presher will actualy cut a grove in the bearings over time. Just my 2 cents, I know I'm runing a factory pump in my new motor.

stock engines will see no benefit from high volume oil pumps, or water pumps for that matter.

These pumps can starve the sump of oil by pumping it all into the heads and filling the heads and lifter valley faster than it can return to the pan sump. not worth it, save your money.

mine's worked fine for the last year. Oil pressure runs on the high side but it isn't ever in the danger level. Never had a problem with draining the sump dry. Don't think that'd be possible unless you were really winding the engine up, the pick up tubes pretty darn low in the sump. But then again if you were winding the engine that hard, you'd probably be running an R/T pan with an extra 2 quarts anyway.

When I rebuilt my engine I went with a high volume pump. Great oil pressure, unless you count the leaky rear main that needs to be replaced.

Order a 99 Dakota R/T pan. It's got a 7 quart capacity and should clear any crank you throw in there. Plus the sump should be in the right place for our oil Pickup

Make sure it's for the5.9 motor as well. I believe that's the only way the R/T came, but be sure.
