Like 01DodgeRam360 I've also been thinking of selling my truck.
Would I buy that truck? Probably not as if I was going to get a new truck it would be new. However, Your not going to get people on here telling you how much better it is than your Dodge when they all own Dodges and are on a Dodge site. So when it comes to if the vehicle is good or not I'd take their word with a grain of salt.
For the guy saying living off of his dad by selling his van. He has said several times he is paying his dad for the van. So basically he is buying it from his dad and then reselling it. I don't see how anyone on here can say anything bad about that? If you can your more than likely an idiot. Sorry to be so blunt but it's the truth.
That truck doesn't seem like a horrible price but I do agree trucks are worth no where near the KBB right now. I hate to say this but I really think you might have quite a bit of trouble selling your Ram. Others with nice Rams have had to practically give theirs away to get rid of them. I wouldn't lower your price for a while though as it can't hurt to try. I just wouldn't expect it to be gone tomorrow. You might get lucky but chances are you wont.
As for aftermarket warranties I hardly ever hear anything good about them. I tend to say that I'd stay the hell away from them.
As for his truck it does sound nice but since it's modified has he beat on it? Is it going to have all the problems you've just fixed on yours in the near future? I've always heard that with American vehicles you get 5 years or 100k miles before major problems start. I didn't know that I believed it at first but that's exactly the experience I've had with my Ram and seen with others. Seems like you might have some problems before then like I did with a power steering pump, just stuff like that. However right around 100k major problems started for me and I think you were right around that weren't you? Just think of how much closer that truck is to 100k miles than a truck with 0 miles would be.
How that being said if you buy new you also loose a ton of money the second you drive it off the lot. So that's not always the best option either. I don't like used stuff but some guys do and have great luck with it. It is usually a lot cheaper as you don't take the several thousand dollar hit when it gets driven off the lot.
It's really up to you. If you like the Ford and can get it for what you are willing to pay go for it. If not then look for something else. If you want to keep your truck then by all means do it. It's just really what you want to do not what anyone else wants you to do. Do whatever makes you happy.

I can't say this enough, but all of you have been very kind and helpful for me during this time...it means a lot to me.
I'm still not sure what I'm doing yet. Many people are pulling over to look at my truck, but none of them are calling me. I did receive a phone call today for the first time, but it sounded like a very young kid who probably would need a co-signer to get the truck. I'm asking $7,900 for it at the moment. I'm willing to go as low as $7,000. I don't know though, I've been having second thoughts on my friends ford. I just feel really bad. I don't know if I could bare buying his truck. He's my best friend, he'd have to see me driving his truck everyday. He made the mistake by buying a $36,000 truck at the age of 23. Now he's 26, and he's trying to purchase a house with his girlfriend, but the monthly payment of $460 is really messing with things for him. He's taught me a lot though, because he's gone through some bad financial times. I just wouldn't ever feel right though; driving his truck because he basically couldn't afford it. As for my loan, I don't have a problem paying $286 a month. My dad has really supported me on this decision, and that's why I have been driving this home so much. If I have his approval, then I really don't worry. He's a very successful business man, and he's taught my well growing up. He knows my Ram is somewhat trouble. He likes the idea of me going to the bank and taking out a second loan, and establishing a very solid credit history with our bank. If he wasn't approving my idea, I definitely wouldn't be doing it, but he's been supporting my decision. Again, I have a lot of time to think. Until I start hearing offers on my Ram, I have more time to think about what I want to do, and perhaps what I would want to buy if I did sell it. But I don't know, we'll see how the Ford story unfolds tomorrow morning. I think his truck is really cool, and he's really maintained it nicely, he's OCD like me lol. But I'd be getting it under very awkward circumstances if you know what I mean; it might cause one to really reascend somebody.

You bought before $4 a gallon gas. Our trucks aren't worth squat right now. I paid 10 for an 01 with 55k on it, 14 months ago, right now it books at 8ish, and from when I started looking into what I could sell it for, figured I'd be lucky to get 6500.
To give you a straight answer on the Ford, it's a decent price, similar to what I saw when I was looking a few months ago...depending on what "lariat" means. I was looking at a Lariat with the center console shifter and moon roof, that's a loaded Lariat, had 48k on it and went for $14,500. Saw another Lariat that didn't have those options, and thought it was over priced around 15,800 with 45k. Brother has an 06 F150 crew 4x4, getting around 55k on it right now, hasn't had any issues.
I grew up in a Ford family, always felt they made the best truck. Really haven't heard anything outlandish about the newer F150s. Think the 5.4 is a fairly solid engine, had problems with them when they first came out, early 2000's, but got them fixed. Saw a note on here about transmissions, which is news to me, everyone I know has a Ford and never had a tranny issue (in a half ton anyway). I doubt I'll ever buy an F150 though, think they got the best interior out there, but over all, truck is blah looking, 5.4 doesn't feel really strong in it...and everyone seems to have one.
I can understand your dad wanting you to establish credit with your local bank, but to play devils advocate, are you going to live there the rest of your life? If you are going to graduate and get a job offer somewhere else, what difference does the local bank make then?
How many miles are on your truck anyway?

I got mine for $7,000 1 yr ago with 37,000. It had been for sale for a while.
My truck has 119,000 miles on it. It had a new transmission installed at 116,000 and is warrantied until March of 2011. I'm going to run my price for another week or two. If nobody calls on it, I'm going to lower it down to $7,500.
As for my friend's Lariat, it's definitely got all the cute little gadgets. Heated and power seats, passenger and driver side a/c control, bumper sensors, leather seats, 18" wheels, etc. It's a very nice looking truck. We'll see what he says tomorrow. I am not pushing him into anything though; whatever decision he makes I will understand.
