That and not all the adjuster screws use the same socket. A special socket or adapter is required, at least on a 98, which is what I owned at the time this thread was posted in 2009! What's your point?

Sooo.. What happens when you cant shift from 1st to second.. unless you take your foot off the petal.. then you go to adjust the band.. front band.. and it never gets tight?? I tested the torque wrench.. it works fine.. But, uhm, that adjuster almost went completely into the tranny.. twice.. the third try I said screw it and tightened the sucker up.. Im about to attempt to drive it and see if its better or worse, Im assuming if there is no difference, I have a problem.. I changed the fluid just yesterday, There was NOTHING in it.. I changed it two weeks ago also, nothing.. (I have to clean the solenoids, or so I THOUGHT.. ) Am I looking at replacing a band?

Nevermind! Even though I completely guessed at it, I drove it.. It shifts flawlessly.! All the way up.. No binding, no slipping.. Granted it seems like I have lost a little bit of power in 1st, taken off from a stand still.. But, if its shifting great, ill take it!

If it's too tight, it'll rob you of a bit of power until you've burned the material off the band and then it won't grab at all.

Sounds like front band anchor may have fallen out of place....

It goes on the end of the adjusting screw...

that anchor was there when I put the VB back up... maybe I should back it off just a little and check again then? I know when I had the VB down, I could reach up and push on the band, and it wobbled up and down ALOT..

look at the end of the apply lever (not the side that you tighten, the side that it actuates) and get the movement between 1/8" to 1/4" an inch of movement. You'll need the pan off to see that part.

Or back out about a half turn from where you are and try it out.
