Default Help!!

Took my truck to a local garage to get an estimate on a custom exhaust. When the guy put it up on the rack, I started looking around underneath just to check things out when I noticed (What I think.) is my pinion seal coming from the transfer case is leaking. I havn't noticed anything in my garage or where I park at work but, I could see where it was spinning the fluid underneath my truck. The mechanic said that it was a pretty easy fix. Has anyone done this? If so, how difficult? I am somewhat mechanicallly inclined and would like to fix this myself if at all possible. Any info would be great![sm=helpout.gif]

you sure it's gear oil from the output shaft or perhaps it's grease from the u-joint or slip yoke?

I am pretty sure its the seal. It is where the drive shaft goes into the trasfer case. You can actually see part of the seal hanging down and the fluid is all around it. 2001ramsport, is it hard to remove your driveshaft? Dont' you unbolt it at the unversal joimt and just slide the drive shaft out? That is one thing I have never done. Just not to sure about it.

when you pry out the old seal, make sure you dont gouge or scratch the housing... if you do...then you'll always have a leak...

Thanks for all the help. I talked to the guy that is going to do my exgaust and he said he would do it for $20.00 while it was up on the rack. So that sounds pretty good to me. I might watch him do it so I will know for sure.[sm=smiley20.gif]
