How are those headers holding up. Youv'e re-welded the connections right, and I imagine (hopfully) painted them? lol

This is my take on EGR (I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will tell me I am)
after having it described to my by several engineers and mechanics. Newer (2004 and up) Diesel engines have egr now except for CAT. I hope this helps you decide what you should do.

EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation is about the worst thing you can do to an engine for either gas mileage or performance. It is and does what it says it runs exhaust through your engine intake to drop NOX gas and conform with emissions. Dodge took the EGR out of the magnum engines because they could meet California emissions with out it and thus improve performance and fuel mileage.

Blocking EGR on an engine that was built with EGR will have an effect and timing will need to be changed but I am not sure which way or if these engines will make the correction on their own.

I can see no reason to keep EGR unless you live in a state that does smog testing. I own a CA emissions 1500 and it has no EGR.

thats cool...do you know when it actually opens up? ive heard that when youre decelerating theres alot of unburnt fuel and it opens up to reuse that....any other times?

The EGR valve allows burned exhaust gasses to be reintroduced into the combustion chambers, diluting the air/fuel mixture. This cools the combustion process (less energy released). Cooler temperatures results in reduced NOx formation.

if this is the case, i might just block it off...or just delete egr all together.
