Default Cold Air Intake a few ?'s

Hi, i just had a new exhaust put on my truck, and am pretty excited about it and have been looking an aftermarket intake for my truck I found a few on Jegs but not sure which ones are better or if they're all the same? i am also looking for some other ideas of getting more power outta the truck, i've looked into the chip but thats the only other mod. Its a 5.9, not sure if that matters.

Welcome to the forums!

Chips for these trucks are a joke. Don't get them. The best you can do, computer wise, is get a tuner if its a 1998-2001. If its earlier than that, a Mopar Performance Computer is probably your best bet.

CAIs tend to also be a joke for these trucks. Get a fully enclosed kit (a "true" CAI) like the Volant, or the 14"x3" open element intake described in the DIY thread. (Top of main 2nd Gen threads page.) Any CAI (like the K&N, for example) is not a cold air kit. It draws hot air from the engine bay, don't let the supposed "heat shield" fool you.

What exhaust system did you get?

please fill out your sig or fill out veichle info, thank you and welcome to DF

as the cold air intake goes alot of people of the forum go with the 14x3 round air cleaner, it hard to get cold air into these motors because of the keg intake set up with the 180dergee belly pan, that is turning cold air into hot air

but if you really want a CAI volant makes a nice one

as the chip goes sct tune or superchip

the best tip i can tell you is use the search op(https://dodgeforum.com/forum/search.php)

good luck most likly sum more people will say sumthing.. maybe purlp(because he has one 4 sale https://dodgeforum.com/forum/members...urpldodge.html )

*********edit jason beat me********** now it looks like i copyed..lol

Well, I have an aFe Cold Air Intake, but I think the other guys are right. Its not exactly getting the cold air they presume it will. I tried to build a custom ram-air type of tube, but its not exactly ram air becuase its not fully enclosed. But it is getting a little better shot of cooler air. I have a superchip, and my engine pings. SOOO it's prolly not a good investment. I have heard good reviews of Volant, but I've also heard bad ones, so research my friend! I think for a better cold air setup is to get a true ram-air hood with a complete ram-air kit that usually comes with one. Thats about as close as true as you can get, I think. Good luck!

I guess I can toss my .02 in and as a former FIPK owner I say go with a 14x3 chrome air cleaner.

Ok thanks for the advice. The exhaust is a dual super 44 not true dual single in and double out.

This is probably about the best thing you can get short of a blower.

Most of us cool kids use the 14x3. Cheap and effective.

If you don't live in a really dusty area, a K&N round filter element with the 14x3 would probably be a good recommendation too.

I just put in my 14x3 with a new breather in the truck today. Looks good and you can feel the difference too. Sounds good too. Only costs me about $50 and only 30 min or so to do it. Probably quicker if your better at mechanics stuff.
