Question Heavy Duty Dana 44 Knuckles

Hi Guys,
Have anyone try to attempt this swap.
I'm tired of going through the unit bearings every few months.
I off road quite frequently and the unit bearing (3 spindle mounting holes design) don't stand the punishment well.
I'm looking at some heavy duty outer knuckles for Dana 44 (6 spindle mounting holes design) on EBAY.
You can get a set for about $100 + S/H.
Anyway, what would it involve to make this swap?? - Is it even possible??
Different outer shafts?
Different spindles - for sure!
Lockout hubs - that would be nice!

OR

I have to get a totally different axle.

I'm not aware of any conversion kit.
I just want to know if this is even possible (without extensive modification)

I have not heard of anyone selling a heavy duty setup for our Dana 44's. If you want to do away with the junk hub design have lockouts, then get the EMS lockout kit. Its completely bolt on, and comes with everything needed (like new spindles, lockouts, axle shafts, seals/bearings etc...). I have heard they are on back order though. Its kinda pricey, but well worth it IMO if you plan on keeping the axle for a while. Heck, replacing the hub bearings a few times nearly pays for the whole kit.

Well if your "Cs" have to be modded or replaced to fit the chevy knuckles, that's probably more costly than its worth.

I think someone tried this on pavement sucks and it didn't work...or was it a cobbled mess. I don't remember.
The EMS kit is nice because the cheap hub bearings are replaced with all steel ones.

A guy did do it over at PS, but it was with a dana 60. I have never seen it done on our 44's.

The EMS kit doesn't just replace the hub bearings, it eliminates them. It just has regular grease-able/rebuild-able wheel bearings like the good ol' days.

Something like ...EMS replaces the original hub component with individual bearings to make an assembly that eliminates the failure prone original plastic caged...

But it's all in the link. Too bad EMS is out of some of the kits...

Yes EMS is a nice kit for cheeper than i got my dynatrac for. But i was going to do that conversion on my 44 but found a cheap 60 i rebuilt and put in. Tryed EMS again for the 60 conversion. Got put on 2week back order and never got called back..I ordered my free spin from dynatrac, but it on today, and will test it out tomarrow. I love it though and cant wait to actualy drive 6 months and not have to do a unit bearing. haha..... my opinion is up grade to the free spin...Yes pricey in the begining but well worth it if you are going to keep your truck...Also you then can do a 1 shaft CAD delete for the passenger side making you axle that much stronger...
