Default P1740 / Replacing Pressure boost valve cover?

I know, another P1740 thread.... but I read everything I could find by Search so...

2001 1500 5.2L

I know that there is a TSB on replacing the Pressure Boost Valve Cover with a revised part. Any good write ups on this procedure? I have a PDF manual but the most I can find on this is a diagram of the valve body assembly.

Supposedly there is a hole in the valve cover that is not large enough and causes it to momentarily slip out of OD. In the attached picture, I don't see any hole in the valve cover plate? Can I replace this without dropping the tranny, how easy is it, and where is it?

P1740 code is causing it to fail emissions test, so I need to get this fixed before my registration gets cancelled. Thanks.

Can't give you a great answer since I haven't really had to deal with that, but can tell you that you don't need to drop the trans to do the work. You can take the pan off and access the valve body fairly easily.

Anyone be able to find a picture of the valve boost cover plate, or the bottom of the engine. Unfortunately I still haven't got this fixed, and I'm really hesitant to tear into the transmission, having no idea what I'm looking for. From the diagram in my above post, there doesn't seem to be a hole in the valve boost cover plate.
The TSB regarding this is here. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/21-11-00.htm

Thanks for any help,

Well I got the new cover part, and indeed there is a small pinhole in the center of it. Now just need to pull the transmission cover, and hopefully replacement will be fairly straightforward.

Well I have the transmission cover off, and I don't see any part like the one I'm supposed to replace. I have no idea where it is. Gonna start to panic soon.

So I finally broke down, and took my truck into a shop. Their telling me it's the torque converter, and to replace it is @ $3k. Any suggestions, or should I just start shopping around for the best deal on getting it done.

Yeah I have had that code in my truck for over a year. have you tried to just get an code reader, clear the code and go right to the shop to get it inspected?

Yeah, I went to Auto Zone and cleared the code before, but it clears everything, and the computer then has to cycle thru different driving conditions including freeway speeds to properly reset. Until it resets, they can't retest you. Last time I cleared the code, driving at free way speeds triggered it again.

I did get it to pass emissions today however. I don't know why I didn't think of this before. Since the P1740 is directly related to overdrive, I just cleared the code and then turned the overdrive off when I cycled thru freeway speeds and stop and go to reset the computer sensors.
Took it to emissions, and it passed. Now I can get it registered tomorrow, and quite driving my POS temp car.

I probably still do need to fix the problem, but it can wait until the weathers a little warmer.

Default why didnt i think of that!

man thats a good idea i'm throwin the exact same code and am in the same situation as you... only my registration is already up. i did the same thing clearing the codes for the test i was also throwing p0455? it was an evap leak so i replaced the gas cap but i've been on real limited time and money and have no intentions of dropping 3k on a torque converter haha. especialy when my truck drives fine has all its gears so i may just have to deal with it later but for now i think i'm just gonna clear out the codes and turn off o/d thanks. do you have to drive and wait overnight to reset your computer? i do which has really been messing me up on time haha i have an 01 4x4 5.9 i dont know if that applies to all dodges or just the 360's or what
thanks,
Alex
