how should i go about doing this? my system has serious contamination, so im doing in before it gets really bad and starts affecting the brakes themselves. i figured opening a bleed valve in the rear drum and pumping the brake until fluid stops flowing, then going around the rest of the truck to remove fluid in the lines after the rwal and proportioning valves. is there a better way to do this?

 

I usually suck some of the old fluid out of the reservoir, then fill it with fresh. I then go around to each wheel and bleed them out until the new clear fluid is coming through (keeping the master cylinder full, of course). I've never had any problems with this method.

 

you want to keep a constant fluid flow in the lines, no air. ophidia laid it out pretty good. seems to be the best method.

The wifes turkey baster is good to suck the old fluid out of the master cylinder.
Just tell her what you're doing with it.

 

Not to scare you, but if you have little black chunks floating in there, then it's time to replace the hose's...ASAP.

turkey baster is good for brake fluid or power steering fluid. but, i would recommend having your own baster for the shop. that is unless you really like the taste of brake fluid. i bought one at walmart for a 5 or 6+ bucks but it probably would have been a lot cheaper at dollar general.

side note. ps pump on my old chevy was whining like crazy. i bought a quart of new ps fluid. probably valvoline. sucked out all the ps fluid from the reservoir. (nasty nasty nasty) refilled with new. drove around the block. sucked/refilled again. drove it. quiet as a mouse.

 

Dollar General doesnt carry turkey basters for some reason. I used mine to do the same thing DH did to Purpl and the S-10. Much better steering response.

 

thats a damn good idea...i kinda got the same problem.

 

I really use a battery water filler from A-zone. not the same one I use to fill the battery though.
