scorched break pads????
I think I scorched my front break pads. I have done it before and it sounds the same. Under light break pressure there is no noise. Under medium pressure the sound like $hit. Under heavy pressure its not as bad. I think it happend when I was washing the dryed mud off of my wheels. I notices some steam coming from my front breaks. Could this that have done it? The pads are about 1yr old and have a little over 11,000 miles on them.

remove tire, then brake pad retainer clips. (very easy job) pull the pads out and see what they look like. check to see if the built in squealer tabs are dragging. these are the wear out indicators.
where did the pads come from ? a lot of places like autozone have lifetime warranty, so you just replace them.
on my daughter's 4runner, the autozone pads were just a tad too tall, and drug on the hub, making a horrible sound. i had to grind off a bit on the bottom.
