Talking Questions about intakes and programmers

I am curious to know what would be a good setup on a stock motor 5.9L V8 360 for intake system and a good programmer or chip or whatever would make it run that much better withought having to tear into the motor the block or pistons or any of that stuff if have any suggestions i would appreciate it.

the SCT custom tunes are the BEST you can get as far as a programmer....intake wise...youll notice people tend to like the round open air cleaner as opposed to the cold air intakes....my AEM showed NO difference from the stock box....but i have heard the VOLANT cold air intake is good..or you could just go ram air...

Default Cai

as far as cold air intakes i would recommend the Volant, it does not leave an empty space that the round air cleaner will. and is a breeze to install. and as for chips i got no clue

Here is what I did to my 5.9 last weekend. Total work time was about 12 hours. Hughes / Edelbrock Intake, Fastman Dan 50mm Throttle Body, Volant Cold Air Intake, 180 Thermostat, MSD 8.5 wires with new plugs, rotor, cap and a new O2 Sensor. I also added a Superchips 3865 tuner. Now granted I know you said you do not want to tear down the motor but the intake is very easy. And since you have the intake off the TB and CAI are a breeze. This all cost me about $1500 bucks shipped to my front door. most of that was the $600 for the intake. So for about $900 you can get everything else. As for performance it is a completley different truck. There is power everywhere and it sounds incredible. I have also seen an improvement in mpg's. I am reluctant to give out new mpg's until I have had time to run the truck for a couple of weeks to get a real good idea. So to answer your question get a Volant CAI. They are easy to install and it is a closed box design which gets real cold air into the engine. As for Tuners I really like my Superchips. It is easy to use and has a lot of features that I really like. One thing to consider about a CAI, When you take Cold air and push it through the old intake it gets hot. Therefore taking away any real advantage of the CAI. That is why you see some guy's running the 180 therm(also to keep overall temp down for perfomance) that is one of the reasons I got the intake. It is an open design which helps keep the intake cool which in turn keeps the air cool. So just figure out what you really want to do and go spend some money and enjoy?

guys i really appreciate the info. everything you guys have put up here will be helpful amd give me a direction of where i should go i am fixin to rebuild the tranny in my truck cuz the clutches are bad so that will cost me bout 400 bucks. but i can see where the intake will come in handy also my mpg in my truck right before i parked it was about 9-10 mpg i think the back side of the intake gasket is blown out so what kind of gaskets did you use on your new intake i kinda figure there is no wrong way to go with felpro or is there something that i dont know about??
