battery leak at terminal
So today I was working on the truck and went to disconnect the negative terminal. The terminal was bobbing up and down as I was wrenching the clamp off and it looked as though a little fluid was seeping up thru the plastic near the terminal. I'll wager I've cracked the case and need to replace it.
Anybody recommend a solid battery? I'd go Optima Red top, but I've been told they don't do well with repeated short trips and the daily commute is less than 10 minutes, so I'm not sure I should go that way. If you run an Optima and have had good luck with short commutes, let me know that too.

All I can say is that I have an Everstart from wally world. No probs and IIRC it is made by one of the best battery company's which I can't remember.A simple search on the WWW will tell you who makes them. Sorry. IMHO, I have heard too many negative things about the Optima's to warrant the cost.

Everstart Maxx from wal mart. the maxx has 3 year free replacement, 72 month pro-rated and cost about 65 bucks. also it has 875 cold cranking amps and 1000 regular cranking amps so it'll really zing that starter. plus they are a lot more reliable and cheaper than the advance or auto zone batteries. that battery is all i run in any vehicle. and my boat. the one you need is the maxx-1n. and don't forget those little felt pads, they work on keeping the corrosion off the terminals. i put liquid electric tape on mine the other day when i changed the stock band-type clamp for a solid lead one, so i'll see how that works out.

In my experience with desert climates and solar power systems - hi temperatures reduce battery life more than cold temperatures. So, 2 trucks with the same battery in different parts of the country would prolly have different life spans.
More trivia - the batteries used to start our trucks are made to deliver high amps for short time. So, leaving the headlights on all night and draining the battery dead will shorten the life even though it will recover and appear to work normally after you jump start it the next day.
