Default 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 Transmission

I am new here, and hoping you guys can answer a question about a truck I am possibly going to buy. It is a 98 1500 4x4 with the 5.9 liter V8. Overall a very solid truck in good shape, with a great interior. However, when driving it sometimes when taking off from idle it is like it takes a second to "catch", there is a slight hesitation. However, it shifts out fine and everything else. This is the only hang up keeping me from buying it. On the other hand the guy said it had a new transmission about 2 years ago, and for the last year the truck hasn't been driven much. Any input is greatly appreciated.

This could be a minor problem or a major issue. Sometimes you can just change the fluid/filter and re-adjust the bands and everything would be great. If not, then it might be time for an overhaul. Its hard to tell without driving it!

Its kinda like saying you have a runny nose, it could be allergies or you could have the flu!

Thanks guys. It might also be worth mentioning this guy only wants $3700 for it.

Sorry to bring up an old thread guys, but I wound up getting the truck. I drove it again and no problems whatsoever. I think that slight hesitation was just because it hadn't been driven in so long. Better yet, I didn't pay near $3700 for it Looks like I might become a regular around here. I'll eventually post some pics.

Welcome, now do a full tune up, check out the lower intake gasket(plenum) do a search. Change ALL the fluids and see how they look. Check all the front suspension and steering components . Once that's all done, let the modding begin,
