difference between 46re and 46rh
#11
If you put a carb on the hemi, neither the 46RH, or the 46RE will do you any good, as there won't be anything to control 4th gear/tcc lockup. As a matter of fact, the 46RE wouldn't work at all, as there would be nothing to control governor pressure either. You might be able to find a standalone system to deal with it, but, I wouldn't bet real heavily on that.

If carbed and adapted to the 46RH will work with the info or a kit from PATC.

The 46RH and 46RE have bigger differences than just the valve body. The 46RH has a mechanical governor on the output shaft while the 46RE uses a computer controlled governor.

You would have to buy a new overdrive unit for 46rh,
it has mechanical govenor in it 46re does not.
Need valve body for 46rh. The valve body has tubes that run to the govener in the overdrive unit.
Not sure what else right off hand. Thats enough I would just buy rh from junkyard and rebuild it myself.
Seems it would be cheaper.
Oh and the rh only uses 3 pin case connector where as the re use 8 pin connector.
You also need this kit
You can download the service manuals for the 95 and 96 fom the FAQ's section to compare the 2 transmissions.

PATC 727 to 518 Conversion Kit
#727518. With these four parts you can convert your 727 transmission to a 518 overdrive transmission with locking torque converter. Lets say you drive an average of 400 highway miles per week, at that rate you could save as much as $1000.00 per year on gas, not to mention the 31% reduction in RPM. Your new 518 will have automatic shifts into overdrive and lock-up, no toggle switch needed. Now with adjustable vacuum switch. The instructions are at the bottom of this page. Cost $85.00

Here http://www.thehemi.com/newhemiswap.php.
From this link:What transmission should/can you use? Stock transmissions pulled from junkyards, wrecks, etc.
Tremec 5-speed manual with an adapter kit (from Keisler).
TKO 5-speed manual for small block Mopars from Dark Horse Performance.
Torqueflite A-727 transmissions should bolt up ok. When using a 727 tranny, you will need to use the older starter and cut the ring-gear off the HEMI flexplate.
Flex plate and trans spacer for 727s and 904s available from XV Motosports.
McLeod is going to release a modular big block bellhousing.
McLeod also offers both quality aluminum and steel flywheels.
