it is either a failing pump, or the bearing gaps are getting too big. switch to a thicker oil, ull be fine.

very good suggestion. i wonder, though, if the releif valve was sticking, wouldnt it lose pressure throughout the entire rpm range? perhaps its only stuck partially open.

i would suggest changing the oil with some thicker stuff, if that doesnt change anything, replace the pump. the flat rate is 2.8 hours for a 4wd and 1.6 for 2wd. and they're cheap.

I had this exact same problem in my '96 Grand Cherokee and it turned out to be a bad oil pressure sending unit.

another good point. i should mention that it is always a good idea to make sure the guage is correct before moving on.

I recently had the same problem, I had someone replace the pump with a high volume one and main bearings and it was good...for awhile. I also developed a rear main seal leak about a week after...think I will switch to thicker oil...and a real gauge. I am quite sure I am not idling at zero oil pressure but I was told our trucks trip the sending unit at 5 psi. I guess the next step will be a new motor. I love my truck but it kinda sucks to think maybe I might have to start dumping money into it to keep it running, not to modify it.
