Default is this normal????

Hey.....i just got all new shocks put on my truck this past week. (Not sure what kind they are)

Ever since i got them....I have been hearing a banging noise from under the truck everytime i hit a bump. When i go over bumps....i feel and hear the front make the noise.....then as my rear tires pass over the bump, I hear them hit. I'm almost positive that this is from the new shocks.

So, am I correct? If so, can it be fixed or do they just "need to break in"

If I'm wrong, what do I do about it.

I'm not a mechanic at all.

sounds like a loose shock or bracket that is not secured... better bring it back or crawl under and have a look.

no there isnt any breakin period. any noise would make me look at the shock bolts and anywhere they might have been with a wrench, or take it back and make them find the error. i would look it over myself if i were youif the shock moves at the mounting points at all sinch them bad boys down or you risk breaking off a shock mount.

No not normal. Like said above climp under there and make sure all the bolts are tight. If you can't find it take it back. Is the noise coming from the rear or the front?

i changed my shocks last fall. i had the same noise, but only on the front. it was caused by an improper size of nut and bolt on the front passenger side. i had to cut the old one off. so i dealy with ait for a few days till the dealer got the oem piece in for me. $18CDN for the nut, bolt and washers. tighten them good.

I'd never heard of breaking in shocks either, but when I got my edelbrock shocks the papers said to take it easy on them at first to break them in. I have owned cars since 1952 and never heard of such crap.

Are you sure they are the correct shocks? Is the truck lifted? If they are too short they can bottom out and have the same effect.

i had the same exact problem with my front shocks after i had them replaced. the mechanic never tightened them! just get under it and check the mounting bolts -they're probably loose.

Sounds like a similar problem that I had with the metal bushing (the metal tube inside the rubber bushing) not being the right size and allowing the shock to bang around against the shock mount. If this is the case, no amount of tightening on the bolts will cure it. I had this problem with a new set of KYB Gas-Adjust shocks on the rear of my Daytona. Just one of the shocks was incorrectly sized at the top bushing.

If this is the problem, it will eventually beat the daylights out of the shock bolt.

Ended up turning the radio up to fix the problem!!
