My '96 Ram 5.9 Lt. V8 is starting but stalling right away (unless I use the thottle). I removed the IAC, it wasn't very dirty but didn't move when I turned the key on. I then tested for power at the harness (Hanes manual) and had no power at the purple wire.
Where do I go from here?

Thanks

Do you have adequte power when it is running?
Crawl under your truck and tap the cat(S) and see if they rattle. Sounds like its clogged up.

My friends did this and believe it or not it was a bad (corroded) battery terminal connection.

yea but his is starting and then stalling. once its started, the alternator should kick in and take over power. i could be your iac, you said you weren't getting power to the wire. i'm not exactly sure though. some of the others might know better

I understood him correctly and still stand by what I said. Infact, here is a reality, start your truck then remove a battery cable it will stall.

1+ The only way a motor wont stall with the terminal removed is on old motors that were not electronically controlled. Fact is the PCM draws its power from the battery, not the Alternator.

Also, he already stated that he cleaned the IAC.
Have you checked the TPS?

Hey GuysThanks for the interest in my problem. I will check & clean the batery terminals tonight.
I was doing some research on this problem and stumbled on the answer to another one (serging at cruising speed in D or OD).
Problem is a noisy signal from the TPS causes the PCM to lock and unlock the Torque converter.
Fix is to replace the TPS, so I'll be changing that out (any sugestions for best brand).
Also the MIL came on today P0302 Misfire cyl. #2. It has coded twice in the past for the same on cly #5, once on 3 year old Cap, Rotor, Plugs and once on brand new stuff. Any ideas why this is?

Thanks

tried cleaning the battery terminals and also reset the PCM. On the first start it maintained idle, on subsequent starts (6) the rpm would drop low and stall 4 times and drop low and return to idle.

Have your battery tested.
