RE: gas mileage on 01 360
Don't I know it.
I bought my truck in 2001 and it was more or less bone stock with the exception of a couple of rusted out cherry bombs pointed out each side. Still had the original pie-plate wheel covers and everything. I got, on average, 10mpg. Now I've got the 35s, 5" lift, new intake, cam, headers, flowmaster 30 and 3" out the right rear, and I still get 10+ if I'm not flogging it everywhere. My last tank I got 11.2mpg all freeway. [8D]
I'd love to pick up a gear vendors overdrive, I just can't justify spending another $2300+ to get it.

OD will just make it worse, you need to re-gear down to 4:56's to get the rpm's back where they should be.
Check your plenum for a leak, look down the TB for oil on the bottom of the intake manifold. common problem with the rams and will hurt your gas milage

Are you talking to me? If so you're crazy. At 60mph I'm cruising at about 2800 rpm, 80 it's like 3400 or so. If I go another 10% higher in the rear end I'll be cruising at near 4000 rpm. [:@]
And my carb and intake manifold don't leak. It's all running great right now.

RE: gas mileage on 01 360
thanks for some insight as to what works. i just got this truck and knew the milage was not all that great. (my brother had the same year and his 98 with the 360 did better). from what i have heard the hypertech is the way to go, good to know it lives up to the claims. like i said not many miles on this thing yet but it averages around 12-13 mpg. not bad for a truck but i know they can do a whole lot better. just wondering is the k&n fipk that much better than just going with a k&n filter? seems to me you would gain just a little by smoothing out the air flow.
not real sure what i will do as far as the exhaust goes. headers i am leary of ( spent way too much time fighting leaks before, gets old real fast.) or has someone actually built a set that will seal. a cat back system eliminates the restrictive muffler and tailpipe but does nothing for the restrictive y-pipe, am i wrong on this one? or do they actually help.

I'm using Hooker Competition headers, ceramic coated - 1 5/8" primary into 2 1/2" collector, and I fought leaks for quite some time. But this last time I went in to Napa and had them call their distributor and I picked up some graphite high performance gaskets that I swear are at least 3/8" thick each. They've got about a 50% crush to them (not that you'll be able to crush them that much). This time I just threw them on and screwed them down as tight as I could (with a little short wrench) and so far, no leaks. Even after taking the driver's side off to replace the starter, still no leaks even re-using the gasket. Sure, mine's an LA 360, but I'm sure either it's the same gasket for your Magnum, or they've got a gasket for it.

Oh that's awesome... you guys with your fuel injection and overdrive transmissions and smaller tires get worse gas mileage than my 86?
