Default ? about coil springs

Hi all,
My '99 4x4 has a serious suspension problem. It bounces around like a pogo stick on anything but smooth pavement, and the front end often bottoms out when I go over a dip in the road at speed.

I just bought 2.5" coil spacers and 2" add a leafs so I could get a little lift, and I'm going to install 4 new (lengthened) shocks all the way around. My question is, do I have to replace the coil springs up front too? Or will the new shocks give me a stiffer ride so the front end wont dive so much? I need to make the front end stiffer cause it's getting BAD.

I would start by checking a shock. If you pull one off and push down on it and it compresses easy, it's shot.

It sounds like your shocks are shot. New ones will take care of it. The springs hold it up and the shocks keep it from bouncing.

Compression and rebound are controlled by the shocks. Springs are generally for load and ride height. Spring rate determines the force needed to compress the suspension, but the shock will determine the speed at which it compresses and extends. Bad shocks will cause the springs to react uncontrollably to impacts.
