Default buying new ring and pinion

I did do a search but i didn't find anything out. I"m getting ready to regear my truck for a lift i'm going to buy in the winter. I was wondering if i can use the same differential carrier with the new ring and pinion or do i have to buy a new unit? I"m going to go with 4.56 gearing. I'm going to get a 5in lift and 35 inch tires.

The rear will be fine. You'll have to change carrier on the front or buy the thick ring gear. I went with 4.11's thick gear, no problems. I too have 35's and wished I had gone with 4.56's.

has there ever been any problems from thick gears?, i talked to my 4X4 shop about them and he said from his experience they tend to be more noisy and wear out faster. plus if you just buy a bigger open carrier it would be about the same price as the thick gears

There is only one carrier for the 9 1/4" rear. The front D44 has two different ones, but I discovered that the dodges came factory with all the same carriers, the lower geared ones used the thicker gears factory. I used the thick in the front with my 4.56's, no problems...
