Just realized how much of a difference my Superchip made...
hey endisnear what model number is your superchip jw?? and im not trying to take over the thread but i know the model number 3715 states 98-03 dodge rams with either the 3.9 or the 5.2 or the 5.9 my question is do yall think it would work on a 97 with the obd2 just wondering
I'm looking at the Superchips, for the #1 reason of saving$$$ at the pump, more mile per gallon, I get right around 11 MPG now, I'd like to get a couple more MPG if I could. My truck is a 2001 with a 5.2L 1500 Ram. So once I get the Superchips, should I tune it to Economy or Performance? I'm a little confused on that part.
The 3715, I believe, is the older model Superchips for 98-03 Rams.
The 3815 is the most common model you'll find, but it was just replaced a month or two ago. I have this model.
The 3865 is the new one. Similar to the 3815, except a color screen, supposedly easier navigation through the menu system, and it covers other models of Dodge vehicles as well, IIRC, more so than the 3815 did.
The 87 octane is better than stock, but not by much. I'm guessing its similar to the original stock tune before the "death flash" was released. I only noticed a 0.5 MPG or so increase between 87 and the death flash.
However, in Performance (91 octane) mode, I noticed more power and almost 2 MPG better than the death flash. Thats with slightly mixed driving, 90% city (avg. 30 mph), 10% interstate (70 mph). Keep in mind I have a severe case of lead foot.
If you get a 3815 right now, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT download updates to it from your computer. They are currently working on an issue right now with the database and our 5.2/5.9 engines. After an early April-ish update, something gut mucked up. Severe hesitation and bucking, like a bad misfire, for five minutes every time you start it up, and then if you WOT it above 45-50 mph, major pinging.
In other words, don't update the tuner from the PC until you get the all clear from me or someone at Superchips. I'm currently suffering with the death flash while they fix this issue, and after getting to know the Performance tune, it really, really stinks.

From what I'm told our ODB2 is like in between, kind of a test period if you will. My cousin said I should pull a 98 PCM out of a junk dodge a hook it up. I might try it yet.
hate to burst your bubble, but if you saw a 25% of those numbers to the wheels i would be deathly surprised. you might get 8 horse out of the tune. oh and by the way i got a hypertech for a 99 if anyone wants it cheap.
