SCT tuners work for 96, and they're superior to superchips anyway, so basically it saves you the trouble of having to debate between the two. I think I will be getting one of those before too long myself after reading all the reviews of those who have them.

Nice Crow quote in you sig btw. Always did think the comic book version was better than the movie

Well I had time to actually test this thing out today, and my first impression was wrong. It doesn't really help much on the low end of the scale, but on the highway I could really tell a difference. There are a few places where my truck usually has to shift out of OD to maintain speed up some hills. Now with the programmer it didn't even lose speed, much less drop out of OD 40 to 70 times are a LOT better, which makes merging into the highway easier. Just for kicks I put it back to stock just to see if I could tell the difference, and I diffidently could. I can't wait to run through this tank of 89 (should only be a day or so ) so I can put some 91 in her and see what the 91 tune does.

Just for kicks, try the tow safe mode and see what it does on your 89 octane...

Going up hills without coming out of OD is the biggest benefit for me. That happens because the hi octane tune advances the timing which creates more low rpm torque.

I got lucky, truck is about out of gas and I can pick up my Superchip tuner from the ups terminal in an hour. I'm going straight to the 91 tune to see the difference.

With my luck, I'll discover before the night is over my plenum gasket is shot and I didn't know it because of the combo of death flash and limited driving...lol

Just to follow up on csxfans impressions. Picked up the tuner and installed it. Set it up on the 91 tune and took it for a spin. Initial responses are a nice change to the motor across the rpm range.

From a dead stop, you can tell the difference. It seems to have better throttle response and will break the back tires loose. Not burn out competition or anything, but the throttle response is definitely noticeable. I really notice a difference on the high end, above 35 or so, really seems to have more oomph up there.

Will say this, truck seems to run a lot smoother now. Just seems to idle really smooth, and all through the powerband just sounds better. It caught me off guard because I never thought my truck idled 'rough', but it definitely sounds different.

Alll in all, no complaints. Wasn't expecting earth shattering performance, and the fact that I can detect anything makes me content, because I drive my truck so little it's hard for me to determine subtle differences. (last weekend took out factory shocks, put in bilsteins, and for the life of me can't tell the difference)

I also noticed smoother idle and a smoother power band, and I agree that the high end was helped a lot. Not so much for the low end but I'm still on the 87 tune. What do you think of the new OD engagement speed?
