Question Budget Lift???

I just bought some 285/75/16s for the ole girl, but i think they might be too tall for the factory suspension? Im not sure, but when i set them up there next to the old 245s it just doesnt look right. The tires look right, just not the area in the fenderwells...... So, whats my best bet here, does someone out there in the internet world have 285s on an otherwise stock 1500 shorty?

2wd or 4? Mine's ext longbed, 4wd. Went up to that size. I did new rims, though, with a bigger offset. Anyways, I had heard they would rub at full lock, so I was going to buy a leveling kit for about $100, to lift the front 2". But when I put the new wheels and tires on, it didn't rub at all. That's when I figured out the rims were a slightly different offset. So, go ahead and put the tires on, see if it rubs at full lock. Then you could either go with different wheels (the stock ones are so narrow anyway), wheel spacers, or the leveling kit.

Okay. Well, my truck is stock height, and fit that size of tires no problem. I do have different rims, though, so you might get a bit of rubbing at full lock, or under some flex.

they will rub the control arms at full lock, my brother in law has 285 75 16s and his do. on the hub there is a square head bolt that is a stop bolt that limits your turning radius, if you run that bolt out a little bit (1/4-1/2") then it shouldn't rub, but that thing will take a lot a penetrating fluid before it'll turn or you could just not do a full lock turn. i used to have 285 70 17s on my truck and they didn't rub so the increased height is what makes them rub. i do remember with my old ones that they were about 1/2" from the control arms in full lock

285/75/16's and 285/70/17's are the same size tire.

Either way, they will fit, but it will be pretty close.

Ya my vote would be try it, if they rub get a leveling kit. It will make your truck look better, anyway. There's no need to lift the rear, the rear will clear almost anything.
