Default 4X4 question

How much does your TC shifter move forward and back when you get on and off the gas pedal? And does the shift on the steering column move also? TIA

yeah, I'm thinking broken tranny mount. My TC shifter moves a lot. The other one just a little.

Ok, even when I hit the brakes the TC shift moves all over. Like if I let it idle along in drive and hit the brake the shifter moves forward.

if it is trans mount, at least it ain't a hard fix. get under there and poke the rubber to see if its stiff. when i got my camaro it had a good clunk every time i got on it and when i got under there i found out that the rubber between the mount and transmission was squishy from being soaked in oil over the years and it was the transmission hitting the floorboard that i was hearing. thats an easy fix though, lift the transmission a little bit, take a couple bolts out, remove old, install new, lower trans and done.

I know it's easy, and it is a little soft, but for life of me I can't figure out what the brakes have to do with the TC. All I can think of is that the front drive shaft slip joint is froze up, and maybe I have some bad control arm bushings that are allowing the axle to rotate when the brakes are applied. btw, I have no clunking, so I know the tranny mount is not broke in half anyway. Also the control arm bushings are hard to check by hand. Even if they have play they are still tight. I'll have to wait for some help so i can get someone to be in the truck while I get under and look. Oh well.

maybe the twist is coming from the rear, as the leaf springs flex.

you might could check it with a crowbar gently applied sideways to a heavy section of the rear output housing.

I still have no one to help me so I can't look under it yet, but I came up with the same theory as what you just said. Only I'm thinking it's a torgue thing since it does it in drive when I touch the brake pedal. I'm going to try coasting in neutral and see what happens as this will eliminate any kind torque theory. Which will just lead me back to the tranny mount and/or left front motor mount.
