Default DIFFERENT Question About Gears

I am having 4.56 gears installed in my truck, with 285/75/16 tires in a few weeks. My truck does not have a limited slip rear, and I don't really have the money for that too. Everyone I've talked to says I should have no problem roasting the tires. that's not what I'm planning on doing, but my question is: what about in the snow? Am I doing to have to be in 4 wheel drive even in the littlest bit of slippery stuff? My truck as it is with the 3.55's does pretty good in the snow even in 2wd, and I don't want to have to keep it in 4x4 in the slightest bit of snow because of the new gears. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I would put it off until you have the money for a limited slip. It didn't snow very much here this year. I have one in my truck. The only time I use my 4wd is going up hills. I live on one and that was because I had high way tires on. Where are u going to get yr gears done?

Ok what do they want? I'm looking for a shop to put 4.56's as well. I might get a locker for mine.

For once I would have to agree with Max. I would wait. The stock diff is a POS. The clips break off and you gotta tear in there to replace it. Do it once. Even if you just get a posi or something. If you off road a lot look into something for that but if its mostly road a posi or better lsd would be fine.

They said $1350 out the door for Motive 4.56 gears and labor, but I didn't ask about the lsd. How much extra should that run me?

At least $400.00 This website goes onto some details. ( http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/Market...ials/index.htm ) A locker will push u around a lot. there nothing like a lsd the gears inside a locker are locked all the time. A lsd will allow one wheel to spine fast and one slower when turning.
