you should kick on the ac and see if the compressor clutch is grabbing, and releasing when its off, the clutch is a plate on the front of it that won't move when its off and will move with the belt when its on. and if you do r134a with the dye you'll need a black light to see it, and it'll be quite noticable if its leaking.
