Questions for you 2nd Gen Ram Experts!
I have a couple questions regarding some things im interested in doing to my new (just aquired) 2000 dodge ram 1500 sport 5.9l. Ive been reading these threads and searching quite a bit and ive come to a conclusion. I have the death flash, and I would like to take care of it. So i purchased the hughes plenum kit and a few other bolt on goods while i have it all apart. If i fix the plenum leak i want to fix the death flash problem. I've read that you can get a superchips/hypertech programmer, but what about just taking it back to a dodge shop and asking them to "undo" whatever it is that they did to steal my power and mileage, i mean if i fix the plenum myself with the hughes kit can't they re-flash it to stock or better? or am i better off with a programmer? Next, has anyone found any good products for blacked out headlights for the sport model? And lastly, I want to replace stock mirrors with extended towing ones but everytime i search for a pair they always read for 2500 models, not 1500 models. will they still work?

The dealer won't reflash your pcm to get rid of the death flash or atleast I don't think they will. It would open them up to liability. You would be much happier with a programmer anyway. The tow mirrors will fit your truck. The doors are the same whether or not it is a 1500,2500, or 3500 series truck.

i'm pretty sure that when a new version of the flash software comes out that the old one is erased from the dealerships programmer. but the superchips of hypertech are a better way to go anyway because the dealership charges like 100-150$ to flash it and the programmers are about 200$
Superchips is preferred out of the two brands, as it is widely regarded as better performing, but the Hypertech will be better than the death flash and is usually a tad cheaper.
The easiest way to get info about Superchips, besides the website, is to talk to this guy. I posted this in the other tuner thread but I'll post it here too. His user name is Superchips Tom, and he was very helpful when I had issues with my Flashpaq.
