This will probably offend you MaroonMonster, but overloading a truck by a ton or more is stupidly dangerous. The braking is one thing. What if a dumb kid pulls out in front of you? What if its a dumb guy with three kids and a wife in the car? Normally, you'd be able to stop. With a proper load, maybe. With your overload?

Normally, they might get the blame for the incident as well, but the highway patrolman(men) sees how overloaded you were, who do you think will get the rap?

What if something snaps due to the severe weight, something flies, something runs wild, or etc. etc. and next thing you know, the guy trying to pass you or behind you is crushed/rolled/otherwise destroyed by your dumb decision to tow a ton + more than you should with your truck?

Doing it once in a great while down back roads is one thing, highway or interstate is just plain stupid.

If it just affects you, its one thing, but when you go on the highway or interstate and threaten others, its another. Your rights end where my nose begins.

Man, get the right tool for the right job. A 2500 and/or diesel, minimum, is the right tool for that kind of load.

If you have to do that with a 1500, at least take it down side roads where there is no one but yourself at risk.

 

huh, ain't heard of it, but we don't get any hassle from cops, or D.O.T. officers, even with the tractor trailer rigs

im not trying to kill someone, but i was just saying safety is key on our operation

i still can't believe 1 post about pulling a lot of weight with a truck caused so much turmoil, what about the guy with the 10,000 lb boat, thats at highway speeds too

 

If safety is key (so you claim) DON'T OVER LOAD YOUR TRUCK!!!

 

We know it won't do any good, but we try anyway.

The 10,000 lb boat is dumb to, but you were first to bring it up, and you were towing even more than that.

You can't believe that mentioning a rather dumb act won't draw a lot of criticism? No offense dude, but if it doesn't, something is wrong with who you're talking to.

i don't take offense to the truth man, i'd love to have a bigger truck to handle that kind of load, but i don't, i know its dangrous, and for the most part, i use my dads truck 1 ton diesel, but he had it and we needed that load of beans to start drilling them

i only go down back roads, only have to cross 1 two lane highway, and i can see down each direction very well,

and if possible i tow stuff like that when there is likely to be less traffic

i know there are risks involved with everything that can't be avoided, which is why i drive slowly, use very heavy pins, clips and chains to keep it on the hitch

i take safety VERY seriously, b/c i don't want to get hurt, or killed, and do the same to some innocent bystander just b/c im doing my job

 

If you do your "job" right you wont over load your truck. How can you see around the hay wagon? I'm not a framer but my grandfather worked on a far for years. Back in the day when you could get away with chit. Those wagons are huge!!! There's no way you can see around them. Even with tom mirrors. Which you don't have. I know that you can't see around them.

 

for god sakes, i overloaded a truck once, now in all honesty who here has never overloaded their truck at least once

 

funny thing is, i can see around them, ours are not much wider than a pickup truck

don't tell me there is a wrong or right way to do my job, your not doing it
