Going out and buying a 2500 with a 5.9 in it would basically put you almost nowhere ahead of where you are right now with your 1500. But I wouldn't go trading your truck in just because somebody told you it wouldn't work. Get there and see how it works for you. If it doesn't upgrade yourself to a V-10 or a diesel. If it does, then just let it go.

Of course if you're going to be hauling heavy things you'll wanna keep your brakes in tip top shape. 1-ton wheel cylinders, dual piston calipers, sloted rotors, etc. Perhaps a lower Thermostat like 180 degree one to help keep the engine cool, and a large auxillary transmission cooler, and deep tranny pan, and a transmission temp guage to monitor. Always leave the over drive off when towing. Maybe some electric fans. You'll figure it out.

i only go down back roads, only have to cross 1 two lane highway, and i can see down each direction very well,
My apologies then, I thought I read someplace earlier in the thread that you were towing on the highway with this. Crossing a highway doesn't count, since you can obviously see both ways and give yourself plenty of time to cross.

i know there are risks involved with everything that can't be avoided, which is why i drive slowly, use very heavy pins, clips and chains to keep it on the hitch

i take safety VERY seriously, b/c i don't want to get hurt, or killed, and do the same to some innocent bystander just b/c im doing my job
You can do whatever you want with your truck man, as long as you don't risk anyone else (unless they know the risks and help you anyway ). I apologize if I sounded like a jerk, I just had this picture in my head of you in your 1500 towing this huge loaded wagon down the interstate. My bad.

Take it easy, avoid highways/traffic, and do what ya gotta do.

haha, its cool man
id be near nuts to to take that think on the interstate, i think the only highway towing we do is up in michigan, and we use a smaller buggy that only weighs like 6000 lbs loaded
