There's a chance. I mean a real small ****ing chance that a steam vac or a carpet shampooer might suck the skunk chemical out. I'm sort of at a loss for this one. Either that or get a big jar of vicks, and just rub some under your nose anytime you go somewhere until the smell disipates naturally.

viniger works on animal urine in carpet, don't see why it wouldn't work for skunk stink too. my dad did the carpet a few years ago with it, soaked it and let it sit for a little bit then wet-vac'd it up. surprisingly the viniger smell went away pretty quick after it dried and it got the **** up.

my other suggestion would be fire.

Honestly, you're going to have to roll the windows down and let your truck bake in the sun for a few weeks. Cat **** is even worse. I know someone whose car stunk for two years until the smell subsided.

+1 on shooting the dog. Only thing is you should have done it BEFORE you paid to have him de-skunked.

Use a carpet shampooer with straight vinegar as a cleaning solution. That should get it mostly out. Another thing you can do to rid yourself of the vinegar smell would be to roll the windows up in the hot sun and light a candle in there. Don't get too far away from the truck just in case something happens, but that will usually provide a nicer less assaulting smell your ride.

The chemical compound that makes up skunk is also used in making the mercaptans that are injected in natural gas to give it that rotten egg odor, except in a much lower concentration. Unlike fresh urine it is not easily removed because it is designed to cling. That's why you can't use water based deoderizers like fabreeze because they only mask the odor until the water evaporates.
Emzymes actually digest the molecules (think pacman) of the compound. Left in a wet matrix, they will continue to do so untill the chemical is digested, or the matrix evaporates.
Walmart also sells an emzyme product for pet urine. You can buy 2 or 3 bottles of it for what a bottle of industrial strength product costs and use that. It should make a difference if kept wet long enough to do the job

Hey, some people live out in the country on a lot of land, and their dogs just come and go as they please.
