drop the drive shaft and the transfer case, crack that puppy open and put some new sealant on it then torque it down and re-install. make sure you read a diy on it first though, i'm not sure how the gears are held in there but they're probably in their own little grooves in the two halves of the case.

 

Thanks....thats what I'm going to do. I just thought I would ask to see if there were any tricks or special do not do advice when getting into this.

 

my brother in law just replaced his because he got a big crack in it from his driveshaft falling off going down the road. he said it was pretty straight forward, but he didn't crack it open, he just removed the old and installed the new. like i said, check out a diy on rebuilding one if you can find one. and i'm not sure if there are any do not do's but you may want to sit on this thread for a couple days and see if anyone that has some experience with disassembly will chime in. the only do not do i can think of is do not drop it on the ground/hand/chest/arm/foot.

 

depending on how you're going to do it...i did mine on a lift. made it alot easier. what i needed the shop had for me, i needed a long lift jack, to support the transfer case as i was taking it out and putting it in. also, make sure you completely drain it first lol. there's a few nuts on the top side of the t-case that might require a stubby(i believe the mounting nuts are 9/16) just plan on it being a long day :-) lol
