I had similar shifting in my 99 and thought it might be just the Governor pressure sensor and solenoid but turned out 2nd gear was gone. Had to get a rebuild, around $1500. The long shift was skipping from 1st to 3rd and the high revving happened when it was trying to downshift to 2nd and dropping into neutral. Might want to check around and see if you can get any free diags from decent shops in your area.

The guys that rebuilt mine said they are seeing a lot of these lately and I passed a couple of other shops on the way to mine and all had 2nd gens up on the lifts.

I found the Governor pressure sensor and solenoid on Ebay for about $110 for a company out of CA and a quick google search turned up some good install sites with pics if you want to do it yourself.

DYI posted in #9 didn't work for some reason, here it is again
https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen-ram/200713-diy-governor-pressure-sensor-solenoid-install.html

NAPA has them, for an arm & leg.
I found mine at a local tranny rebuilding shop, just a bit more than $100 for both.
Unless $$ is no object, check around before paying much over $100.

Well my buddy came by that I got the truck from and I told him about it. The truck has had a rebuild done before, but it is out of warranty. But, he is gonna call the shop up, give him a story tellin him the truck is still his and see if he'll look into it. My dad has hook ups with the dealers around, so I can get a discount if it comes down to it.

So... I'm having the EXACT same problem. I have a 99 Ram 1500 4x4 with a 318 motor in it. It doesn't want to shift from first to second, then if I try to accelerate in second it slips and redlines. I started calling around today looking for these parts, and all I can find is at Carquest called a governor control solenoid. Is that what I need? We've already drained and dropped the pan, all we have to do is pull the sensors and go get the new ones. I'm gonna call a local transmission shop next. Advice? Suggestions? Thanks!

No ma'am. Your problem is a little different from his.

Youre going to need to adjust your front band.

Yes, call a local transmission shop (not the Fiat, I mean Dodge, Dealer) for the governor pressure sensor and matching solenoid. They likely have them in stock already and about half the cost of the dealer.

Local transmission shop wanted $120 each for the sensor and solenoid. My dad's cost at the dealer was around $180 for both. The transmission shop even bragged about how theirs came with a free pan gasket lol.

Well yesterday I checked out the wiring harness I mentioned in my first post. A black and white wire was loose in one of the splices, not to mention the considerable amount of transmission fluid coating the splices and all around the pan. It isn't dripping, but was seeping, because the shop that did the transmission work before used a cork gasket and over torqued the **** out of the pan bolts. Considering the price of the tranny work that was done out of the previous owners pocket.. it's ridiculous that they used a freakin cork gasket..

Anyway, I'm gonna check it out some more, redo the splices, and test drive this evening. Hopefully that saves me $180.

I don't mind cork, so long as they're torqued properly.

Whatever gasket you use, check them again after a week or so of driving, the bolts often work themselves lose and need to be re snugged.
If you don't, the fluid will find the weakest point, and blow right through the gasket.
