Yea they were a little loose when I checked under the truck today, so they got tightened. The splice wasn't actually loose, but the insulation on the wire was, maybe from the transmission fluid soaking into it. The heat shrink appeared to be fairly tight. One of the harnesses that goes into the transmission was wet, so we cleaned that up.

Gonna test drive in the morning. If it still acts up, which I'm sure it will, I'll order the parts.

Well good luck, you are right not to expect any good results ,,, Making the rare times when things go right all the more sweeter.
Whether or not its part of the problem, a chaffed wire needs to be corrected anyhow.

You are using ATF +4, right ?
Probably wouldn't hurt to try very small adjustments to the TB cable, just make sure to have a reference to where it was.

I've been having shifting problems for months, I basically shift by the pedal. When I start going the RPM's keep building up, until at about 35 mph I let off the pedal, and work my way back up.
Usually catches a gear, some times it doesn't and I have to repeat the process ,,, A PITA for anyone behind me whos in a hurry.
Then at 45 MPH the RMP's start to go off the chart, and I have to let off again ,,, But sometimes it will go just fine over 45, very unpredictable.
I got over 60 today, it was like a rush of speed, I am so unused to going that fast.
Reverse is also spotty, sometimes it work, sometimes it don't - I've pushed it by hand more times that I care to remember, so I try not to leave myself in that position when I can help it ,, Which usually means a far walk from the *** end of any parking lot.
I've tried fluid swap, new governor sensors, new TPS sensor - Improved a bit.
Also deleted the check valve with a new hose, a process you most certainly should do if you have not already.
Should have adjusted the bands also, I chickened out, fearing I'd make it worse.
Haven't messed with the cable yet, seems to be functioning properly.
Sometimes, like today I drove well over 100 miles, it drives like a champ, sometimes like a bloated pig.

Don't mean to steal your thunder, just know that you aren't alone with a hobbled tranny.
Sometimes throwing some minor parts and making small adjustments work, usually it doesn't.
As for me, I'm happy to be driving at any speed, I have no fear at all of getting a speeding ticket, and I just give myself extra time to get where I'm going.
A rebuild may be in the cards for me, maybe not.
1 day at a time.

Well mines been rebuilt before and not that long ago, so it shouldnt require another rebuild for a while. ATF+4 Fluid. I don't believe I need to adjust the TB cable. It hasn't been touched so in theory it shouldn't need to be adjusted. I want my truck to work properly and I don;t want to have to baby it to shift.

I test drove it a few minutes ago. It shifted every time, even when I came close to flooring it, but I didn't want to push it too far. This time all the shifts were a bit delayed.

It kinda hesitated the second time I came from a dead stop and gave it a little bit of gas. The RPMs kinda went up and down 3-5 times with around 250 RPM difference in around 3 seconds time but then carried on its way with no more issues like that.

Other than that it worked its way through the gears that have been giving it trouble, just a little bit off on the shift timing. Should I still order that governor pressure sensor and solenoid, or look down a different path?

They appear to be the correct parts, from looking at them

Its a pretty straight forward and problem free swap, you'll have to factor in another $50 or so for fresh fluid and gasket/filter, thats about it.
Can't hurt anything, and the relatively low expense and ease of installation makes it worth the gamble.

I would again suggest that you get rid of the check valve if you haven't already done so, and also this is the time to consider putting a drain plug in the pan, to make the next drop a whole lot easier.

Yea i had to do a tranny fluid change which turned into a tranny flush when i had to drop the pan for a different gasket, and wish i had installed a drain plug the first time i had it off...makes life ALOT easier.
