gears i think of
ok sorry for the wait guys, i have had a couple of differant problems from sleeping at work for the last three days, computer crashing on me, and just plain out busy, but ok on my take to this hole thing...
this is the first of many rebuilds to come,,, the whole switching to 35 splines, and cromoly shafts,,, that will all come later, with the next deployment.... for right now i think i may just go with the 5.13 gears, detriot soft locker in the rear, and how can i change the front gears? i know helms said i ha to change the carrier. i will admit, i am stupid at alxes, i dont have to much knowledge in them yet but am willing to learn... to just put some 5.13 gears into my front axle, what would i need, any pics or dicriptions would be nice... i have been inside my 44 and 9.25 twice, so i kinda know parts, but not really...
as for the locking hubs, that will come in time, probably when i get my taxes back...
the manual locker,,, cable locker, i was thinking of going with the OX locker in the rear due to its cable, but i just dont hve the money right now. i still have to take care of a few body panels, to include the bed and two differant doors. so i need to do this right, but not extreme... if that makes sence. the soft locker by detroit, is that a strong enough locker? and i am going with 37X12.50 Swamper SSR's basicly TSL's, so there no as big... i mean hell i saw a guy runnin 40s on a D44... i thought that was crazy...

ok, now i also have this questions becasue as i shop for gears, i am finding the least expencive **** for lockers is about 550. little more little less... but, to just keep what i have in the truck, and to add the 5.13 gears, what the hell do i need, ring and pinion.com doesnt say anything about needing a new carrier. just and install kit... and holy crap richmond is expencive as hell....
ok yup im back, where can i find a site i can get new carriers from,,, like i said, im lost on that and i dont even know what im looking for, i think i may just stay witht the diff i have so i need to put a differant carrier...
where can i prefferably get a set of rings and carriers for those axles?

ok, vizualization time, lol. sitting under the back of your truck. pull the diff cover. in the middle, you will see a big gear with teeth on one side, thats the ring gear. if you look way inside, toward the front of the housing, thats the pinion gear. Now, the thing that the ring gear bolts to (there are like 10 or 12 bolts on the opposite side of the teeth, going around the ring), THAT is the carrier. If you look inside the carrier, there will be four, smaller, intermeshing gears. the two vertical gears are the side gears, and the two horizontal gears are spider gears. the axle slpines slide into the center of the side gears and the side gears are driven by the spider gears which are connected to the carrier via the center pin. HAHA, this is hard to explain.
Parts described:
Ring gear
Pinion Gear
carrier
Side gears
Spider gears
Center pin
Axle shafts
order of power distribution:
Drivshaft turns the pinion gear, pinion gear turnes the ring gear (this is where you get your gear reduction (4.10:1, 5.13:1, etc)). The ring gear turns the carrier, the carrier turns the spider gears, spider gears to the side gears, side gears to the axle shafts and axle shafts to the hubs.
