This was my third ankle surgery since 2007 and my 2nd fusion. First one didn't take. I'll be down for about 12-16 weeks, 8-10 of which will be zero load bearing.

Get diagnosed and if possible, get an MRI. My injury was in 2005 and originally misdiagnosed as a sprain. 6 months later when it wasn't getting any better I finally insisted on an MRI and discovered it had actually been a fracture and had now healed improperly. The joint developed arthritis and quickly disintegrated. It will never be the same or even close because of that misdiagnosis.

I expect you'll be getting a nice settlement from the misdiagnosis?

Not hardly. Medical malpractice in CA practically requires you to either lose a limb, have a piece of surgical equipment left inside you or result in your death in order to be compensated. The doctor that messed up is a medicolegal expert and testifies in a lot of trials as plaintiff's expert. No lawyers wanted to take him on because of that. It is also a very common misdiagnosis with foot injuries and the ER doc made the same mistake. I really wish I could have gone after both of them.

Wow, that's bull****. It's not like an injury (not to mention surgery, let alone ankle fusion) like that alters your quality of life or anything...

At the very least they should hook you up with mass quantities of groovy pain killers for the rest of your life. You earned it.

Well, a long night of heavy drinking makes for difficult walking the next morning. DUHHHH

Damn that's a long time. I'll be screwed if that happens. And it seems likely it will, both my ankles have been bad for years and I can barely step on the edge of penny without getting a sprain. I actually dislocated the other one of few years ago,but that was only 2 weeks down time. This is way worse, it's burning and putting weight on it sucks. I can move it around pretty good when I'm sitting down but when I stand on it, it's flat foot walking only , with no twisting or bending. Man what a bummer, thanks for your input and get well bud.
