Default Turbocharged 318

Hey all new to here and just want to say the place is great, I've browsed alot of the threads and have learned alot!

So I have two t25 turbos that I got cheap from a friend who doesn't use them since he upgraded to something bigger, and I'm wondering what would be a safe psi level to run them at so I don't blow anything? I know the safest route is to replace pistons and stuff with forged but seeing as they generally start at 600+ dollors... that will probably have to wait.

If it turns out this isn't a good idea and to wait and rebuild my engine that's cool but if it can work that would be awesome.

I have a Stock 318 Magnum with dual flowmaster 50 series and a AIRAID Cold air intake.

I'm relatively new to turbo's and any advice would be appreciated!

Truck: 1996 Dodge Ram Quad Cab, 318 Magnum, 4x4, Flowmaster Exhaust, AIRAID Intake.

I would wait until you can get the forged stuff. And don't forget to replace the blown plenum gasket, which blows 99% of the time on these trucks.

Hughes Engines has a fix for the plenum gasket, that solves the whole problem rather than just replacing the gasket which will just blow again later down the road.

Thanks for the info.

I know I have to replace the pistons with forged so what else would I have to replace also to be safe?

I am by no means an expert on the internals, I will let other more experienced forum members answer that question more completely.

I would just make sure that the engine is running 100%, including fixing the plenum gasket, before messing with anything like forged components or turbos.

Ok thanks for the help!

Just so others know I just rebuilt the tranny and also on the clutch replaced the disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing.

Haven't had the engine actually checked but will do that anyway before I installed anything just to be safe. Much cheaper to get it checked than rebuilt.

Overall it's in pretty good condition never had any major problems with it

threre are a few different ways to approach a turbo build. one way is the redneck way. just build some turbo exhaust manifolds, bolt on the turbos, run a tube from the turbine to the intake and throw a blowoff valve in the middle. this way is VERY hick, and there is a slim chance the engine will run proper, if at all.

the proper way can get complex and expensive. i suggest first reading "the turbo bible" (http://www.turbomustangs.com/turbotech/main.htm). after you get a basic understanding of how these sytems work, you will be able to make a more educated decision.

Just read through that article, very informative thanks helms.

I also have the book Maximum boost, by corky bell(I think that's the author) working my way through that.

So at the minimum I'm looking at is forged pistons and a better roller camshaft? Also mod the plenum gasket. What else should I do? Don't want what happened to the guy in the vid I only have one truck!

I work in a machine shop so I have access to everything I need to make all the turbo components I need.

Thanks for the help, it's appreciated
