Cool Front brakes and rotors!

Hey I just changed my rotors and front brake pads. My outside pad was not real bad yet but the inside pad was razor thin. Not only that but I found out my driver side caliper was almost completely froze on my rotor barely moving when I applied the brakes with the tire off. Took everything apart cleaned everything up real good with sanders and brake cleaner. Truck freed up alot. I did not realize how much my brakes were holding me back!! Credited it to just being a heavy truck!! Just thought I would share this will everyone!! Makes me so damn happy!!

your brake pads should wear kinda evenly between the 2. if your calipers are freezing like that(or however you said it, your sentence just kinda trailed off a cliff), then i'd say about time for new calipers. whats to say it wont do it again ya know?

yep, they should be pretty even. if they aren't then you have a sticking caliper or possibly a contaminated pad.

The calipers slide on a set of steel pins. They tend to get goobered with brake dust and/or the boots that seal thewm and cause sticking. Usually, replacing them or at least cleaning them up and relubing them works wonders.

I just replace them every time I do pads. They are so cheap, so why not?

Cool

Hey we had it in the air on a lift and verified everything was working 100% before reassembling. Then after we put it back together we verified it again. I think the whole problem was the little metal slides that the pad ends slide on were pretty rusted up causing them to stick at times. We cleaned them up real good using a sanding disk (air tools) and used brake lube in all necessary places. Everything working great. Floor lifts are the way to go makes things alot easier. Wished I had my own. Oh and by the way wj I edited my first post just for you!! I ll be watching!!

I suggest checking the the calipers slide freely throught the mounting frame. One of my calipers was binding and thought it was the pins. However, found it was the frame, and had to file out the casting lines.
