Default Emissions questions

My friend was telling me if I unplug all the vacuum lines for the emissions system that I would get a lot more power out of my truck. Is this true or is he full of s**t? I know I have a vacuum leak somewhere since it makes a lot of noise but maybe its normal. I'll get a recording of what it sounds like when I first turn it on and drive around a little bit.

You'll also get a CEL with a lot of codes. And do you you have the stock air intake or something else? And if you do have a vacuum leak, finding it and fixing will give you more power also.

Here is a short video of the start up and a little rev and idle noise. I'm just not sure if this is how my engine is supposed to sound because of all the high pitched air leak like noise.

Sounds like the IAC on a cold start, with either a gasket missing from the top of the TB where it seals the air intake, or the plastic box is cracked or not sealing well on top where the clamps are. Or the IAC and TB needs cleaning. Other than that, does everything work? Like , cruise if you have it, or blend doors in the heater box.

Lol thanks for clearing that up then. Ya other than a cold start it seems to be ok after a while. I can still hear a lot of air pressure being expelled when I've been driving it for a while. But while I use my cruise control it'll be set and every once and a while it will randomly shoot the RPM's up a little bit but won't adjust my MPH.

OK, after you check that other stuff mentioned, you need to check or replace the TPS.

the factory air box to throttle body gasket gets hard and cracks when you get some miles on the truck, i'd check that first. and while you have the air box off you can look it over for cracks and check the torque on the throttle body bolts at the same time. after that i would start checking the vac lines for cracks. and make sure the iac and tps screws are snug.
