Speedometer Calibrator?
#11
I already took the truck to a dodge dealership and they said it cannot be recalibrated, whatever it is from the factory is what it is, it cannot be changed.
And I know my correction is 8.6%, so I do know how fast I'm going, what I'm after is a permanent change though cause my odometer is not racking up the true miles.

yes i agree with all of you that it sounds kind of fishy that dodge themselves could not recalibrate, when the guy said "no" i actually questioned him again "are you sure?" and he again replied "it can't be done" so idk he seemed sure about it but id rather just have it done and be done with it then buy some $200 piece to do it myself, seems like a lot of money but i may just have to bite the bullet and buy one

I hate to say this, but my experience with dealerships has been that they are nothing more than trained monkeys. If it's not on a TSB or on a spec sheet, it can't be done. They don't really try to use their brains and figure problems out. We probably know more through our collective knowledge and experiences than they do. Whatever corporate says is all they do, not one inch more.

thanks for the tip lol if i didnt worry about it i wouldnt have created the thread, but in all honesty ill prob purchase one and do it cause i plan to have the truck for a long time, my intentions are when i have enough money saved to buy a 2500 turbo diesel as my new daily driver, this ram will become my "off roading machine" and lifted and whatnot and will only be used for off roading =)

The spedo on my 97 shows 3MPH above my actual speed compared against GPS and cars running parallel to me.
My tires were factory optioned up 265/75R16 from 245/75 and my current tires are the same spec.
Why would my speedometer be off if I'm still using factory tires? Was the factory too lazy to adjust the speedometer for the bigger tires..?

Dude, I dunno about back east, but out west the hourly mechanic rate is $90/hour. So the dealer gets a good chunk of that, but still, they have to be making more than $25/hour. That's good pay for turning a wrench all day. Plus they have benefits and such.
