Harsh? Sorry, but this place isn't a substitute for a service manual.

Anyway, to take some out, either get underneith your truck (which should be easy, you can almost walk under yours lol) and slowly loosen the plug and let it drip out. I wouldnt take it out because its very hard to get the plug back in when fluid is pouring everywhere. Now, if the fluid in there was old and needed to be changed anyway, then flush it.
Thats my .02
Good advice, except that Dodge doesn't put drain plugs in their tranny pans. Still wondering why the harshness? At.02 cents, your reply is overvalued.

You are right, the comments may be harsh, but even if you have only gone into a parts store once to buy an air filter or some wax, you probably walked by all the manuals! They are there for a reason, and it's not for decoration. They can help with the simplest of things.

Yes, it was, wasn't it?

Seriously, no one wants to be harsh to a fellow RAM owner, but everyone that offers help in here does so with a precious commodity: their time. The least someone looking for help can do is to first help themselves. If you plan on working on your own vehicle you should have a manual and at least try to find your answer there first. Coming in here and taking up people's time and expertise should be a last resort.

Y'know, when I spent many a day (and way too many nights and weekends) in the parts business, most of the people that wanted to fix thier vehicles came to me first. Some of the inane questions I needed to answer with a straight face...and I know NONE of YOU are guilty of asking said questions. B***S***T!
Some answers could have been found in a service manual, and that usually ended up being part of my answer. Of course said individual(s) either A. wanted to rip open the seal and read the manual in the store or B. take the manual home read, affect the repair, and return the manual full of greasy fingerprints and/ or with missing pages.
I guess nobody's holding a gun to my head to spend time here answering questions. But I can be pretty picky about who and what. And there have been several times I wish I were paid for I give out. So if I feel like offering up my time, I do it gladly. Again, noone's forcing me to be here...

I've been around this forum thing a long, long time. I got my start in publishing back in '93 when a magazine editor noticed me answering technical questions in a Harley forum and offered me a column in his magazine. I went on to make a very good living as a photographer and technical writer in the motorcycle industry.

The problem is that too many people come into forums like this only when they need help. They ask their questions without bothering to read the forum's FAQ or even getting a feel for the group. Often, they get their answer and are never heard from again. Most of these groups are like little communities. We develop relationships and bonds with each other because of a shared passion and respect that has grown over the course of many posts. I hang out in a lot of different forums and moderate a couple, as well. It tends to wear on you when you see people just take advantage and move on, never contributing anything in return for whatever help they got. That's human nature, I guess. I mean, the internet is free, isn't it?

Like someone once said, there is no free lunch. The world is full of takers. Is it wrong for a group like this, with very helpful and knowledgeable people, to expect that anyone wanting to pick our brains for free at least do a little due diligence on thjeir own part? Is it too much to ask them to do a search first? Heck, half of them don't even try to make it any easier on the people capable of helping them. Look at their posts. They don't even bother to list their year and model of RAM or what engine it has. How hard is it to make a sig with that info so we don't have to guess?

This place is great. I've made friends with a lot of really nice people of varying technical expertise. Some know a little, some know more than I do. Together, we make this place fun and informative. If you want to be a part of that, then the admission charge is very small, wouldn't you say?

I agree, but to call someone like me or him that just joined this site dumb is probably not the right thing to do.. If you catch my drift.
