With my tail lights being all led and the under the tailgate light and the one on the step. My lights would still be plenty bright.

well that sucks here in San Angelo TX we don't have either one of those places the closest pep boys is 95 miles away in my hometown ugh this blows lol

 

I was thinking about this very thread as i followed an honda accord home, he had smoked tail lights. Very had to see in normal daylight. I bet I could win that one in court if I rear ended him.

 

he needs to go LED bulb under em! its really not too bad if you dont over coat it! in day light you can still see the red of the original tails and they light up well i replaced the reg. bulbs with RED LED today...a little brighter but if i went with WHITE LED itd be better...

 

theres all kinds of websites to order the stuff online... ive been to Autozone, and advance auto parts.. and while ive never seen the actual nite shades.. i have seen VHT brand stuff so its possible my locations were just out of stock

 

Don't let the other forum yayhoos drag ya down. They look good, and if I hadn't made myself a personal promise to quit with the mods after my last speaker addition, I would do this as well.

Honestly, I don't see the big deal over this. If a person can't see your big *** truck in front of them, either during the day or at night, and can't judge the fact that, "OH! He's getting closer to me!" they don't need to be behind the wheel.

 

lol VERY WELL put.. i agree with you 100% and if they are too stupid to recognize that very common sense situation i still have two other BRIGHT LED brake lights so if they fail to pay attention to ALL those signs then they indeed shouldnt even be allowed to LOOK at a vehicle much less drive one!

Laramie, you make things sound pretty simplistic, when you should know as well as anyone else that things can happen in half a blink of an eye tooling down the road at 40 mph +.
No one should be following anyone so closely that they wouldn't be able to stop, should the person in a big *** truck in front of them decide to slam on the brakes, even for no apparent reason.
That is common sense, and that is also the law, and that is why people rear ending someone are almost always to blame - Problems start, though, when you diminish visual indications that a person is applying the brakes - Brake lights being first and foremost, theres not much else to go by but perception.
One second, the guys going your speed or faster, and is 5 car lengths in front of you.
The next, he is at a dead stop and you are about to plow into him.
You might have 1 to 3 seconds for your eyes to tell your mind to give the command to your foot to stomp on the brake ,,, And these muted brake lights are sure as hell not going to help in this regards, being, by design & purpose, less noticeable and visible.

That is exactly why you'll get a ticket driving with defective brake lights - Your defective equipment is a safety hazard, and can likely contribute to, or actually cause, an accident.

You guys think its worth the risk to look cool & stylish, more power to ya.
I'll go on record saying that its stupid, and this practice is almost certain to be outlawed in the near future.

 

In a lot of states, it's already illegal.

Maybe I do have a simplistic outlook on things in my life, but I have come to notice two major things in regards to people and their driving.
1. 90% of rear end collisions, are caused by people either fiddling with their phone, radio, hair, makeup, eating, or what ever else.

2. People are unpredictable, and I figured out a long time ago, that in a lot of instances, speeding up will get you out of a wreck in a better way than slamming on the brakes will.


I'll give you the fact about reaction times considering the average takes about 1-2 seconds to realize what their next move will be behind the wheel. The way I look at it, during the day time, especially on a sunny day, the older vehicles, you can't even really see the lit bulbs anyways. At night time, you need to see what VHT actually looks like before you knock it. It actually allows a lot more light through than you might think. Think of it as a window tint film, but only the back is more solid. When on a window, it might take 2-3 layers of 5% film to completely black it out, but on a lense that has no light coming from the opposite side at all times, it would only take 1 layer of 35%.
See if you can muddle through that, since I am on some new medication to make me sleep, and it's quite odd.
