Default Warning Chime

My warning chime hasn't worked since I bought my truck.
I just though about it a few minutes ago and checked the fuse, which is good (I don't have the temp/compass console that also runs on that fuse to verify a good circuit, though).
What else could be keeping the chime from working? Where is it (or where should it be)?

Not that big of a deal, more curiosity. But if possible, I wouldn't mind getting it working to remind me of my headlights and such.

this probably varies by year, and i don't know about your 97, but here's how my 01 works. the chimer is inside a black box under the dash, called the CTM, central timing module. it contains an electronic board, with a dinger speaker on it. it controls a lot of things and has about 20+ wires going into it. on mine, its inter-related to fuse number 9 or 13 or something, which is labeled power windows or locks, can't recall which. with that fuse missing, i get no dinging/chime, including low fuel, key in ignition and door open, lights on and door open.

you might have a missing or blown fuse.
you might have a ctm with speaker removed.
you might have an unplugged or bad ctm.

check for all conditions that create ding.
you might have a door switch rewired.
you might have a key in ignition switch mod. i have mine unplugged to silence the key in ignition and door open ding.

Thanks.
I'll go check around for the CTM, and recheck the fuses.

I dunno for sure since mine works and I haven't had to go looking for it, but being a 97 I would think more old school. By 01 they made a lot of improvements. You may just have the old buzzer style relay type deal. In the old cars it used to be just a little box that looks like a relay and had a couple of wires coming out of it. It may be in the fuse box or it may be hanging inside the dash. Also, it's not really a chime, more like a buzzzzzzzzzz. Annoying, but does the job.

You don't want it. Just get in the habit of pushing on your headlight switch every time you get out of your truck. I searched for a long time looking for that annoying damn thing, and when I found it, a Phillips head screw driver went through the buzzer. When I am working outside, the truck doors are always open and the stereo is cranked. I hated that damn buzzer.

I read somewhere that the Laramie SLT exchanged the buzzer for a chime.
Oh well. I couldn't find any blown fuses, or any disconnected wires under the dash.
